Pregnant Minor

This program is designed to meet the needs of pregnant teens.  Academic requirements for a high school diploma can be satisfied while the student also learns important prenatal and parenting skills.  Modesto City Schools offers this program at two sites, Downey and Elliott.  This is a voluntary placement for the semester of their pregnancy.  Student wishing this program are to meet with the traditional school administrator to complete the pregnant minor referral forms.  Students must present proof of pregnancy at the time of the referral which includes the due date. 

Modesto City Schools also has a Cal-SAFE program which provides day care for the teen parent's infant and/or toddler while the teen is currently enrolled and attending school at no charge to the teen.  This program is offered at three sites, Downey High, Modesto High and Elliott Alternative based on space available. 

Teen Parenting

California School Age Families Education Program known as Cal-SAFE is a school-based program offered for pregnant and parenting teens and their children to encourage the teen to continue their education.  This program offers a wide range of educational and supportive services, including child care and transportation.  The goal of the program is to provide the opportunity for students to remain in high school through graduation, provide child care and development services and health needs of each child.  The children of enrolled teen parents will have enhanced school readiness.  This program is offered at Modesto High, Downey High and Elliott Alternative as space is available.
